Is Pride Getting In The Way Of Getting You A New Job?

The recession has not done the world any favours when it comes to unemployment and although the recession has apparently been deemed as “over”, it would certainly seem that many people are still out of work and struggling each week to get by.

edlevels_2Most of the time people are looking for a similar job for the one they were just made redundant from and although this is a good thing as it is their area of expertise, sometimes there will not be anything available within the sector.

So what do you do in this situation, do you join the doll or do you do something about it?

The second option is the one that I took and is the one that you should all be trying to look into. I have been in the position of redundancy and was made redundant from my old post around a year and a half ago now and I have to say, it was a bit of a low blow because it is simply your source of income gone within a blink of an eye. I was not alone in this because the entire company fell to pieces but nevertheless it was still a very difficult thing to come to terms with.

The very first thing I did was make the most of all of the free time by hanging around at home doing nothing at all which is not what I would suggest doing to anyone as it wasn’t until the end of the month that I realised that the redundant payment I received wouldn’t really last too long. So I frantically went out looking for a similar post in the area but it looked like the recession had hit a lot of the main competitors too and no one was really looking to hire someone for the time being. What on earth could I do now?

After another month of searching for a job I had decided that money was a lot more important than my pride so I applied for a post in the local supermarket. I managed to secure this job and stayed there for 6 months whilst I was still looking for another job. Although I hated every single second of my time working in this supermarket I have to say that I did learn a lesson:

There are jobs out there, you just sometimes have to take away your pride and think about how you are going to be getting by.

So if you have just been made redundant or you have been frantically looking for a well paid job similar to your last for a good couple of months, consider removing the pride and taking anything you can, it could mean that you and your family are able to stop worrying about losing everything.
